Scala-Self-fulfilling Prophecy Live
This wonderful choir is receiving world-wide acclaim because of their cover of Radiohead's song "Creep" in the trailer for The Social Network. I have been a fan since I heard this cover several years ago. The classically trained Kolacny brothers, Steven (piano) and Stijn (conducting) have turned this Belgian girls’ choir into an international phenomenon. Enjoy and explore their entire catalogue.

Jake has elevated the Ukulele into something else with this virtuoso performance! Look for a new book by Daniel Dixon entitled, Ukulele: The World's Friendliest Instrument. This wonderful little book details the history of the instrument, and showcases many of the masters past and present, including Jake. You can pre-order the book on Amazon now, the release date is in a few weeks.
I highly recommend this fun book, so beautifully written and researched by the late, great Daniel Dixon. I scored a co-author credit for helping with some photos and fun stuff. His wife, Dixie, typed it all and shot many of the photos. Enjoy listening to Jake, and pick up the book, there's charts at the back to teach us all how to play the uke!
Waterloo Sunset performed under the Waterloo Bridge, gotta love Ray Davies keeping the Kinks music fresh.
I was moved by Bettye's Prairie Home Companion visit tonight. Incredible. Unfortunately the show does not offer a podcast. However, if you chance upon my post in time, you can catch a rebroadcast stream of Bettye's perfromance via public radio on Sunday, February 28,2010: here

This is such a beautiful and exciting ukulele performance of George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Jake Shimabukuro has been playing since he was four years old, and his performances have been an inspiring part of the growing popularity and interest in the instrument. There are ukulele clubs springing up across the country, and a wonderful book on the history of the ukulele by Daniel Dixon will be available next year, published by Gibbs-Smith Publishing.
Vishwa Mohan Bhatt was playing world fusion music even before it had a name. To play his unique eastern-western style, the Indian musician invented an instrument - the Mohan Veena. It's a guitar modified to play like a sitar, sarod, veena, and guitar, all at once. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt recently toured the US and Lonny Shavelson caught up with him in Hayward, California for PRI.
